Wii Play Review
Wii Play comes with a bundled controller and a bunch of games. This is great for those of you that need a controller. For those of you that have already got the four controllers it looks like it’s ebay time. (myself included) Or perhaps you’ll hang on to the new controller as a backup for that controller that disappears into the void know as child denial.
On to the review of the games.
There are nine mini games on the Wii Play game Disk.
Shooting Range – that has you popping balloons in a ‘duck hunt’ style game play, just don’t hit the ducks. This gets old fast but the last level is a little unique in that aliens try to abduct your Mii character and you must shoot them down before your taken off to planet anal probe. Well, I made up the last part, although that would make an interesting game for the Wii controller. They could call the “Proctologist” Ok enough… this alien level is reminiscent of Defender but it is short lived flashback.
Find Mii – is the next game on the list. This is sort of a strange matching game. Sort of fun in multiplayer but one of the weakest on the list second to Pose Mii
Table Tennis – is as the name would lead you to believe. The limited size of playing area makes this game somewhat frustrating, also the wonderment about hidden control techniques adds to the frustration of the annoying question, is there more.
Pose Mii – is a matching game where you must spin your Mii to match the shape in a bubble as it falls down the screen. This is the lamest of the games.
Laser Hockey – is one of the simplest yet one of more enjoyable of the games to play. My wife and I usually are screaming profanities at one another in Chuck Cheese as we battle for supremacy on the air hockey table. It is nice to have a game available to us without the emotional scaring to our children as they watch their parents get thrown out on the street by a large mouse.
Billards – is simplistic in design and control. It adds a nice element to the Wii controller and is one of the better games.
Fishing – is great game to play with the kids. There is no casting involved as in Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. This version is sort of Fishing Light when compared to that L of Z sytle.
Charge! – you race cows around knocking down scarecows. This game falls in the middle of the pack. It doesn’t suck as much as some but … erh you know the rest.
Tanks! – this is without a doubt my personal favorite of the games. I wish the Wii Play allowed 4 players instead of just two, because this game would be a lot of fun with 4 human players. You drive little tanks around a simple wooden block battlefield, blasting other tanks. A dash of tactical elements makes this game quick to learn and challenging to progress.
To sum it all up:
Wii Play is one of the better games to come out for the Wii. Tanks, Laser Hockey and Billards make it worth the buy for me. We have kids 8 to 3 and my wife and I love to compete against one another. The games in Wii Play are a nice addition to Tennis on Wii Sports. I am just not sure what I am going to do with extra controller. Perhaps I’ll hang on to it just in case they do make a Proctologist game.
