UPDATED REVIEW OF SIMCITY 5 This is a LOVE Hate relationship with this game. Here is the reality I have noticed with myself and this game. BF3: End Game has come out and all my buddies are online playing (and I LOVE BF3) (AND I love dirt bikes – like my Honda TransAlp) but yet I am not playing BF3 with dirt bikes, I am dealing with the login issues, server issues and other in the gauntlet that is known as “EA / Origin – I just want to play the game I bought…Please just leeettt me play it!!” process. So the above still holds true on my HATES of this game and I still HATE the fact that I don’t “own” it. EA owns it and they let me play it by their agenda. But yet there is no denying that “for some reason” I keep running that gauntlet (which thankfully is getting shorter) to play this game. So here is the LOVE part. This game reminds me of X-com Enemy Unknown. I was a HUGE fan of Xcom Terror from the Deep and waited for Xcom EU. I was so disappointed with the changing of the movement options from the old, to the limited new version. However, I was able to forget my love of the first game and just be grateful to have something, anything new to play. (with the hopes they will return to less dumbed down versions of the game) And the same applies to SimCity 5 (2013) If you forget what you loved about the previous SimCity(s), there are aspect to this game that are quite OCD enjoyable. So here we go, story time: I had built up a large city, carefully plotting out every inch of (limited – ahem) space I was given to build this massive city. I carefully was able (for the most part) to tax out the poor and only have middle and wealth sims in my city. Education was top notch, health care, police, fire, water , sewer, waste, recycling (3 plants) all at the peak… but when I would try to tweak my city any change would send unstable oscillations crashing through my finances. So what to do? I had another city in my region, that I had walked away from, I had gotten to zealous in my endeavors and decimated my finances before my lofty ideas could take root. So what to do with this massive city that I built up? I needed serious cash on hand to ride out the bottom swings of downturns but this city would take way too long to build up that kind of reserve. I was able to save up 100,000 simoleons and gifted it to my other city (Carbondale btw) This 100,000 allowed me to build a smelting plant and in short order I was making money using the coal and ore mines and trading the alloy my smelting plant was creating. I parlayed that into a larger trade depot with trains, built that up into 2 more smelting plants and within a few hours had that gift of 100,000, turn this tiny little mining town into a million simoleons a month cash machine. So now I am building up that cash reserve I need to address my large high tech city, with the efforts of this small coal mining town. So that is one aspect of SimCity 5 (2013) that I loved. Here are two different cities, two different problems, two different solutions, two different puzzle pieces that didn’t have to fit together but through some creative (and fun) planning, a solutions to both problems was created. So it is not SimCity of the past (which I still think is better) but a different type of game that has some entertaining aspects. (able to redeem the 100% online – NO) but able to recoup my $60 in game play and I’ll settle for that.

Sim City 5 - Latest Review. If you haven't herd by now.... this game is an EPIC FAIL! (now you might be saying - well when they work out the server issues (when) - it will be fine and you'll forget about these problems) THE PROBLEM is - I (we) paid $60 - to basically be beta testers. Here is a running list of the things I HATE about this game. 1 - you can't play it. (period) it is ONLINE ONLY and if you can't get online well then you can't play it. If you can get online as of right now... the EA/Maxis Servers are so jacked up that you will be VERY lucky to play it at all. 2 - Switch Server - lose everything. That's right - if in the morning you are able to bang out a hour before the server crashes or the game crashes BUT now it's night time and that server is BUSY, BUT there is another what is AVAILABLE. IF ou play on that server, you have to start all over again... then the hold your hand tutorial. 3 - No Offline mode - I know i said this earlier but WTF you can't made a ONLINE version with a OFFLINE version. I guess how to make the game pirate proof, is to make the so that no one can play it, therefor it is pirate proof. 4 - Map Size - forget building any huge cities like in SimCity past... now you have to play in your little assigned box and you can ask the people in the next box to send you stuff... (isn't that great) 5 - Road planning - want to upgrade that road to a highway with rails.... Hold on partner! Not without destroying everything next to that road. 6 - Meh .... more to come. I am going to TRY to play now... see if I can get on my server.

Have you ever wanted to play Android Games on your TV??? Erh - we really never thought of it that much either. The idea is buy the console and play games on your TV for free. Will it work? I am hoping it does ( we are sitting on AndroidDemo.com ) waiting for the gaming market to flourish a little more... No doubt there will be some developers out there that will make titles for this... but what makes Android - Android is the touch screen. The Nexus 7s & 10s are powerful gaming platforms that lack titles that the machines desire. Are they coming - I hope so, again AndroidDemo.com ;) But if the titles on the Nexus are weak - clearly the OUYA will be weak as well. Then add the "Free to Play" of the OUYA and my skepticism goes into high alert. There is always a cost of distributing content, clearly that means advertising, so "FREE" games means lots of advertising. OR (and I think this will be WAY more likely) the "pay to win" games will flourish, which really doesn't make the games free. All that paranoia aside - a new gaming console, is a new gaming console and should be celebrated as such. I wish OUYA developers well and Android Game Developers, well be here waiting to post your Game Demos and Android Demos. FYI - Surface with Windows 8 Pro comes out the Saturday the 9th. It will be interesting to see how it runs as a gaming rig. My latop runs the same Graphic's card - Intel HD Graphics 4000. Older titles (some of my favs COH, Civ5, AvsP, Fallout... ) run fine on the laptop. If the Surface Pro (which runs Windows 8 64bit OS) can handles these titles in the same manner - I'll be elated. Why I am excited about this tablet. - It is a FULL OS - USB 3.0 built in - SD card - built in. - Touch screen. I have been waiting for the day of when Consoles bridge the gap to Desktops. You can see with Windows 8 that Microsoft has that game plan in mind. While Windows 8 (got it running on Dell's 2710 Touch - LOVE IT) doesn't completely make the transition to bridge that gap - the framework is there and BRAVO to MS for laying the foundation. Company of Heroes FANS - Disappointing news. :( I had held out hope that the Amazon Release date would hold 1/31/2013 - even after hearing THQ went augering in, with a pop cap of zero. Just refreshed the droid amazon app and pulled up the title. The date reads 12/31/2013 - BLANK BLANK AND BLANK!!!! (while I think this date is Amazon's way of saying TBA - to be so close and now it is mystery date again makes me sad) As a buddy posted on our FB page - perhaps they need time to reprint the boxes and remove THQ and replace with SEGA. So now I have to switch to hoping it comes out at the end of the end of the month to hoping it gets released at all. I have been here a few times before - amazing games designs dying on the vine. please not this time.
